Third molars or Wisdom Teeth are our third set of molar teeth that are present in the most posterior (furthest back position) in our upper and lower jaws. In a large percentage of people, our jaws are not large enough to house these teeth comfortably, and their eruption can lead to such problems as pain, swelling, infection, and reduced ability of oral hygiene.
The wisdom teeth usually push through or erupt from age 15-30 and if insufficient space, can be quite painful when they come in.
Your dentist will assess the position of your wisdom teeth and recommend extraction if necessary. Depending on their position, they can be removed at your dentist office, or referred to a specialist if difficult.
